Program Host: International Christian Fellowship is a multi-cultural church heavily involved in prison ministry. It is active in Dupage and Cook County prisons serving two or three nights per week. Ricardo Gonzalez, the pastor, is a retired policeman. Many of our certified instructors and mentors are retired from or in careers of law enforcement. Military veterans and experienced human service professionals also serve as volunteers.
Each of our twelve, instructors/mentors has two certifications. One for teaching and mentoring in the Life Catalyst Program and another; certification as a DCFS mandated reporter.
ICF has obtained the rights to implement the Life Catalyst Program in Chicagoland.
Life Catalyst Offers
Mentoring (1 Session) Mentoring is the nucleus of the program. Proper mentoring assists people with needs in our society to transition from where they are where they need to be.
Power of Example(2 Sessions) Stresses the importance of the influence that an individual has upon those around him and ultimately the obligation of an individual to be a proper and good influence.
Power of Desire(1 Session) Everything is determined by desire. Goals are achieved by having the desire to achieve those goals.
Altitude of Attitude(2 Sessions) What happens when attitude is dictating undesirable results? How can the attitude be changed?
Growth(2 Sessions) To fail to grow means not only arrested development, but degeneration.
Grief(3 Sessions) Explains the stages of grief and outlines the grieving process.
Self Destructive Behavior(14 Sessions) This chapter teaches how to identify these behaviors and make choices to overcome self-destructive behaviors.
Anger(11 Sessions) We explain the personalities of anger as well as how individuals handle and react to to. We also teach effective strategies for managing anger.
Depression(4 Sessions) Defines depression and assists in identifying clinical depression. Discusses the treatments for depression and their merits.
Ego and Self Esteem(3 Sessions) Discusses the difference between male ego and female self esteem, the causes of poor self-esteem and poor ego and the effect of both as causation of depression.
Loneliness(1 Session) This course is taught in connection with and as a cause of depression.
Contentment(1 Session) This course highlights the importance of adapting to and accepting change while maintaining peace and purpose in our lives.

The Program Director is Stan Balcom. Mr. Balcom has over 17 years experience in human services. He has been a trainer of trainers, case manager, program manager and direct care worker. His experience includes working with developmentally disabled sex offenders.
